Time To Rebuild - Manhood
Is your life in ruins? Is the "mortar" of your marital house crumbling? Have you lost your way and can't seem to locate the map?
I recently heard President Obama stating that this is "Recovery Summer", as far as helping the U.S. economy recover through rebuilding programs, especially road and infrastructure programs. While Mr. Obama may be concerned with the U.S. economy, men, and in particular fathers of families and priests, should be concerned with "rebuilding" the very economy of their homes and parishes.
I have just finished reading G. C. Dilsaver's new book on partriarchal leadership entitled, "The Three Marks of Manhood: How to be the Priest, Prophet, and King of your Family." I must say this is a groundbreaking book in that it gathers together the magisterial teaching on fatherhood into one concise work. While the book at times is a theological treatise, it is also very practical - and extremely timely. With the crisis of leadership and the crisis of abuse in the church leadership, this book brings an insight in to what the bottom line is to fixing what ails the Church and the modern family.
Having known Dr. Dilsaver for the past few years, I can personally attest to his living out the message he brings out in this book. Patriarchal leadership is not an easy task for the modern family. He has demonstrated both in the book and in real life, that it is possible with God's grace given sacramentally, and with that desire necessary to perfecting one's life. With so many marriages on the brink of ruin, this book and its message can restore the proper foundation to build a truly Catholic home.
